Jehue, Reyare in winners’ row

Jehue Gordon captured the men’s 400 metres hurdles title, at the Chris Brown Bahamas Invitational, in Nassau, on Saturday.

The Trinidad and Tobago athlete stopped the clock at 49.50 seconds, for a comfortable cushion on second-placed Eric Alejandro (50.21), of Puerto Rico. Another Puerto Rican, Jamele Mason (51.60) finished third, while fourth spot was copped by T&T’s Emanuel Mayers in 51.72 seconds.

T&T sprinter, Emmanuel Callender clocked 21.48 seconds to finish seventh in the men’s 200m. LaShawn Merritt earned gold in 20.34, beating fellow-Americans Justin Gatlin (20.44) and Mike Rodgers (20.87) into second and third, respectively.

At the West Texas A&M Open, in the United States, Abilene Christian University (ACU) student, Reyare Thomas struck gold in the women’s 200m in 23.40 seconds.

Another T&T/ACU athlete, Osei Alleyne-Forte clocked 49.38 to top the men’s 400m field.

In Georgia, Auburn University’s Kai Selvon picked up silver in the Spec Towns Invitational women’s 200m event in a wind-assisted 23.12 seconds. Aleesha Barber was 12th overall in 24.18, while Auburn’s Gabriela Cumberbatch (25.36) finished 23rd.

Barber earned silver in the women’s 100m hurdles in 13.10 seconds. And in the women’s 400m, Cumberbatch was 11th in 56.64.

At the Ole Miss Invite, in Mississippi, Kashef Daniel cleared the bar at 2.08 metres to finish second in the men’s high jump. The Arkansas State University student also competed in the long jump, copping 16th spot with a 6.60m leap.

Sparkle McKnight finished fourth in the women’s 400m, at the John McDonnell Invitational, in Arkansas. The University of Arkansas junior got home in 53.98 seconds. McKnight clocked a wind-aided 24.34, for 12th spot overall in the 200m.

At the UTEP (University of Texas at El Paso) Invitational, UTEP’s Aeisha McDavid produced a windy 11.93m effort to finish fifth in the women’s triple jump.

Zwede Hewitt copped fourth spot in the Texas Invitational men’s 200m event in 21.29 seconds. And in the 100m, he finished third in section two and sixth overall in 10.70.

Baylor University sophomore Dannielle Davis was 12th in the women’s long jump with a 5.56m leap, 15th in the 100m hurdles in 14.69 seconds, and 24th in the 100m dash in 12.66.

And at the KT Woodman Classic, in Kansas, Butler Community College sprinter Richard Marcano finished 50th in the men’s 200m in a wind-assisted 22.55 seconds, while Wichita State University’s Aaron Leung Woo-Gabriel was 56th in the same event in a windy 22.68.
