Lalonde lands sprint double

Trinidad and Tobago’s Lalonde Gordon captured the men’s sprint double at the Rider Invite track and field meet, in New Jersey, USA, on Saturday.

The 2012 Olympic Games 400 metres bronze medallist topped the Rider 100 metres field in 10.70 seconds. And in the 200m, he clocked 21.21 to strike gold. New York-based Gordon also ran the leadoff leg for his club, Zenith Velocity in their 4x100m triumph. The Zenith quartet got the baton round the track in 40.98 seconds.

At the Donald Webster Memorial Invitational, in Maryland, Coppin State University’s Deandra Daniel grabbed gold in the women’s high jump with a 1.75 metres clearance. Another T&T athlete, Morgan State University’s Jeanelle Ovid cleared the bar at 1.70m to finish second.

Haysean Cowie-Clarke emerged victorious in the men’s 100m dash in 10.80 seconds. The Coppin State University student also competed in the 200m, finishing fifth in 22.44. Another T&T/Coppin State athlete, Kareem Crawford clocked 54.72 seconds to cop fourth spot in the men’s 400m hurdles.

In California, Geronne Black picked up silver in the Mondo Mid-Major Challenge women’s 100m dash. The Portland State University senior got to the line in 11.65 seconds. Black was sixth in the 200m in 24.45.

At the Seminole Invitational, in Florida, Florida International University (FIU) sprinter, T’Keyah Dumoy clocked 23.96 seconds to seize silver in the women’s 200m.

Chelsi Campbell bagged bronze in the Delaware Open women’s 400m event in 58.82 seconds.

And in the 200m, the University of Delaware freshman finished fifth in 25.39.

Temple University sophomore, Kiersten LaRoche earned bronze in the University of Miami Alumni Invite women’s long jump with a 5.74m leap. She was 12th in the 100m hurdles in 15.54 seconds, and 32nd in the 200m in 25.36.

At the Norfolk State University Relays, in Virginia, Jameel Walcott returned a time of four minutes, 22.80 seconds in the men’s 1500m event.

The St Augustine’s College junior finished fourth.

In California, Magnolia Howell was fifth in section one and sixth overall in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational women’s 400m in 54.73 seconds.

And at the Metropolitan Championships, in New Jersey, Long Island University (Brooklyn Campus) junior, Kervin Morgan clocked 49.80 seconds to finish eighth in the men’s 400m.
