Cox tops age-group at Yonge Street 10K

Curtis Cox finished 20th in a huge field of 2,510 men in Sunday’s Toronto Yonge Street 10K, in Canada. The Trinidad and Tobago runner completed the 10-kilometre course in 32 minutes, 39 seconds.

Cox topped the Male 45-49 category, the 45-year-old Curepe resident finishing almost a full minute ahead of second-placed Tim Pearson (33:36), of Canada. Another Canadian, Daniel MacKinnon (34:39), was third in the 45-49 age-group.

The overall Yonge Street 10K men’s title went to Kip Kangogo, the Kenyan getting home in 28:57. Kangogo finished ahead of a pair of Canadians, Eric Gillis and Sami Jibril. Gillis clocked 29:01 to cop second spot, while Jibril was third in 29:16.

Lanni Marchant captured the women’s title, the Canadian runner finishing 16th overall in 31:57. American Rachel Hannah (33:39) and Canadian Paula Wiltse (34:56) were second and third, respectively, among the women.

Another top T&T distance runner, Denzel Ramirez finished 12th in the men’s 5,000 metres event, at the Sun Angel Classic outdoor track and field meet, in Arizona, USA, earlier this month. He returned a time of 15 minutes, 00.60 seconds.

American Adam Vess was the class of the field, winning in 14:33.82, from Eritrea’s Bahlbi Gebreyohanns (14:37.18) and Swede Alexander Soderberg (14:38.82).
