Cedenio, Wright rank high in junior rankings

Carifta champions Machel Cedenio and Andwuelle Wright are among seven T&T athletes who ranked in the top ten in the world in their events. Cedenio (Simplex) is at number four on the men’s junior (Under-20) 400-metres performance listing following his 45.93 personal best (pb) clocking in striking gold at the Carifta Games in the Bahamas on March 30. Cedenio also ran 45.99 to take the TnT Elite Twilight Games men’s one-lap title on May 3.

Triple Carifta medallist Jereem Richards (Abilene Wildcats) is eighth with a pb run of 46.20 seconds in finishing third behind Cedenio at the TnT Elite Games. Richards is also eighth in the 200m (20.95). John-Mark Constantine (Concorde) is seventh-quickest in the men’s 100m after he dashed to 10.38 (pb) to win at the Carifta trials on March 2. Constantine’s run was more impressive as he ran into a 3.4m/s headwind.

Double Carifta bronze medallist Reubin Walters (Memphis Pioneers) sits at ninth in the men’s 110m hurdles (99.0cm) with a pb time of 13.66 set at the Falcon Games on March 24. In the World Youth (U-18) standing, 2012/2013 Carifta gold medallist Andwuelle Wright (Signal Hill Secondary) is seventh in the boys long jump with his 7.29 distance which he set in retaining his boys U-17 Carifta title earlier this year. Last year’s Carifta boys U-17 200m champion Jonathan Farinha (Abilene Wildcats) is at fourth in the boys 200m with 21.10 pb dash at the first day of action at the Falcons Games on March 23.

Kayelle Clarke is the lone female on the global listings. The Petrotrin Palo Seco sprinter is at sixth in the world youth 200m after she returned a time of 23.76 in finishing sixth in the girls under-20 200m finals at the Carifta Games.
