5K marathon planned for 2015, cancelled

Newsday :: 31.12.2014

THE Trinidad and Tobago Marathon Committee (TTMC) on its website yesterday announced the cancellation of a 5K marathon planned for next year in order to focus on the long distance events.

Emphasis shifts to the marquee TT Marathon (26.2 miles) and Half Marathon (13.1 miles) events on January 25.

The TT Marathon Committee has acquired the services of Active.com to facilitate registration for the 2015 event, and participants have the ease of registering for the races on the Online Registration page, through the Active.com link on this site. Race bibs will be distributed the week prior to race day, so keep checking Race Info for updates on collection.

We look forward to the excitement of raceday, with Leah Kigen and Hillary Kipchirchir Kamaiyo returning to defend their crowns. The course remains the same for 2015, from Freeport to the Queens Park Savannah, the article stated.

President of the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC), Brian Lewis has launched a new initiative with the social media handle, #10golds24, designed to give more of the country’s athletes the opportunity to fulfill their potential.

He has committed to compete in the Trinidad and Tobago International Marathon on January 25, 2015 to launch the #10golds24 Athlete Welfare and Preparation Fund with the hope of raising TTD$500,000 (£51,000/$79,000/€65,000), which will be used to help fund athletes preparing for Rio 2016.
