Fatima going for glory

Newsday :: 18.04.2015

WHEN THE annual Penn Relays are run off next week in Philadelphia, one of the many teams from Trinidad and Tobago attending with high expectations will be Fatima College. Fatima will be competing in the High School Boys four by 100 metre relay for large schools, and this week, the team received a timely boost with the injection of a $20,000 donation from the TT Newsday newspaper.

Fatima have produced some creditable performances since making their debut at the relays in 2011, and they have reason to be upbeat about their chances this time around. Save for an injury-plagued 2014 campaign, they have lowered their times in the “four by one” every year.

In 2013, the boys in blue and gold clocked 42.97 seconds to finish 17th of 273 teams in the Large School category. Additionally, at the Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships a few days ago, their team captain, Xavier Mulugata showed form in winning the Boys Over-18 100 metres.

Newsday will be rooting for them and all the TT teams competing at the meet. The Penn Relays will be run off between April 23-25 at Franklin Field, in the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
