Olympic medallist Emmanuel Callender successfully defended his title in the men’s 100-metre dash at Saturday’s National Association of Athletics Administration (NAAA) 2014 President’s Classic, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

With challenges from Josh Hamilton of UTT Fast Track, Keston Wickham of Concorde and Memphis Pioneers teammate Courtney Bascombe, Callender bolted from the starting blocks on a clear trajectory to the finish line, while his rivals battled for the remaining spots.

He won in 10.23 seconds which was the meet record set by him the year before. But it turned out that Callender would not be the only athlete successfully defending titles, while repeating meet records.

Carifta shot put gold medallist Portious Warren of Toco TAFAC did so in 14.39 metres, while Carifta gold medallist Akanni Hislop of Zenith secured the U-18 200m dash in 21.28 seconds.

Caliyah Wallace of Cougars proved her victory at last year Girls U-14 200m was no fluke. She topped the field in 25.56 seconds.

Aaron Lewis of Zenith held on to the Boys U-20 110m hurdles in 13.90, while Anika Wolfe of PAP won the Girls U-18 400m dash in 56.52.

Jamol Pierre of Abilene Wildcats delivered a repeat performance in the boys U-20 400m dash in 47.82.

Having won the women 400m dash in a time of 53.24 second for Neon Trackers at last year’s competition, Romona Modeste returned to competition representing Abilene Wildcats, but in a slower time, however, 55.57.

Throwing a distance of 71.07 metres, Shakiel Waithe of Rebirth won the men’s javelin event, while Seon Stafford of Defence Force retained the men’s long jump open title in 7.28 metres.

With Machel Cedenio of Simplex out of the weekend championships, Kevin Haynes of Defence Force climbed to the top in the men 400m dash in 48.30. Cedenio won that event the previous year in a time of 46.99.

And, with Johnathan Farinha of Abilene Wildcats opting out of competition at the weekend, Francis Louis was able to climb to the top in the boys U-20 100m dash in 10.70. Farinha’s meet record stood at 10.44.
