Newsday :: 24.04.2015

St Francois Girls finished a respectable 24th on the world in a time of 49.80 in the 4x100m Large School Girls division on day two at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia yesterday. The St Francois quartet included Jeminise Parris, Jeneil Morris, Kadesha Prescott and Thyla-Maree Scott.

Also in that event, Bishop Anstey High School were 35th with a time of 50.29 while St Joseph’s Convent were 85th with a 51.79 finish.

Meanwhile, Fatima College will be among a number of Trinidad and Tobago schools today competing for honours. Led by National Secondary Schools Senior Boys (18+) champ Xavier Mulugata, the boys from the Mucurapo Road institution will compete in the heats for the High School Boys 4x100 Metres (Large School Category). Their heat is scheduled for 11.35 am today. The Fatima team is being coached by Nigel Cooper. Newsday has assisted the school in its bid for sprint relay excellence to the tune of $20,000.

Fatima, since making their debut at the relays in 2011, have been going faster each year with the exception of an injury-plagued 2014 campaign.

In 2013, the boys in blue and gold clocked 42.97 seconds to finish 17th of 273 teams in the Large School category.

Also in action yesterday, El Dorado West placed 91st in the Girls 4x100m event with a time of 52.06. Bishops High School from Tobago were 188th after clocking 53.66 while Toco Secondary’s girls registered a time of 53.87.
