National female distance runner, Tonya Nero, powered to victory in the 2015 Nestle Health Fair and 5K event which ran off around the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain, on Saturday.

Nero, who currently holds the National record in the 5,000m and 10,000m events, strolled to a comfortable win in 18 minutes, 12 seconds ahead of a packed field of competitors and enthusiasts who came out in support of the health initiative. She beat to the line eventual runner-up Christelle Laurent (18:54.98) and third placed finisher Christiana Laurent (19:15.21) respectively.

In the male division, Livan Luque Reyes captured top honours as he maintained a quick pace to win in a golden time of 14:22.22, over two minutes ahead of the next finisher. There was no competition for Reyes who blew away the field which included silver medallist George Smith (16:43.30) and bronze receiver Collin Perreira (16:46.71).

And in the Disabled division, a category specially catering for physically challenged participants, Justin Garcia crossed the finish line in first place. Following the 5K, participants went straight into a “cool down” aerobics segment. Prizes from hosts Nestle and sponsors Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) and Guardian Life were then distributed to the event’s winners.
