Nero 5th in Guadeloupe Half-Marathon

Tonya Nero finished fifth among the women in the Abymes Half Marathon, in Guadeloupe, on Saturday. The Trinidad and Tobago athlete completed the 13.1-mile course in one hour, 25 minutes, 16 seconds.

Ukraine's Svitlana Stanko topped the field in 1:19:07. Kenya's Caroline Kiptoo (1:20:44), Ethiopia's Chhaltu Bedo Bedo (1:23:27) and France's Corinne Herbreteau (1:23:40) finished second, third and fourth, respectively.

Burundi's Abraham Niyonkuru captured the men's title in 1:09:17. Nero is the national record holder in the women's half marathon with the 1:15:13 clocking she produced in finishing 27th at the 2012 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships, in Kavarna, Bulgaria.
