UWI Games 2015 opens tomorrow

The Opening Ceremony of UWI Games 2015 will take place tomorrow at 3pm at UWI-SPEC, St Augustine. The ceremony will be hosted by Jason Williams of SLAM 100.5 FM.

UWI Games is the biennial competition among the St Augustine, Mona, Cave Hill and Open Campuses which go to a different UWI Campus each time they are held. It has returned to the St Augustine Campus for 2015. Approximately 500 athletes from across the region will take part in this year’s games across 10 sporting disciplines - basketball, football, tennis, swimming, table tennis, track and field, volleyball, cricket, netball and hockey. Competition in all sports will involve both male and female participants except for cricket and netball, which will be male only and female only.

Invitational Events featuring national athletes are planned for Swimming and Track and Field on May 24 and May 28 respectively.

UWI SPEC, the campus grounds as well as the Tacarigua Hockey Centre, Marlins Swimming Pool in Westmoorings, and the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo will house this year’s sporting activities.
