Wallace, James shine Port of Spain top Atlantic Primary Schools Champs

Caliyah Wallace and Tyrese James emerged as the top athletes at the Atlantic National Primary Schools Track and Field Championships, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, on Wednesday.

Wallace reigned supreme in the girls' 13-15 category, the Port of Spain athlete winning the 100 metres, 200m and 400m events.

Wallace was dominant in the 100m dash, getting to the line in 12.82 seconds for a comfortable cushion on Shiniah Francis, the Tobagonian earning silver in 13.94. Wallace also had more than a second to spare on her closest challenger in the 200m. She got home in 26.70 seconds, while second-placed Gabriella Walters, representing Victoria, clocked 27.79.

And in the 400m, Wallace completed her lap of the track in one minute, 02.13 seconds to finish well ahead of silver medallist Breanna Vincent (1:04.89), of Tobago.

Wallace, the Victrix Ludorum at the Championships with 30 points, also earned sprint medley relay gold, anchoring Port of Spain to victory in 2:05.84.

James, the Victor Ludorum at Wednesday's primary schools meet with 30 points, was the class of the boys' under-11 100m field. The St George East athlete won in 13.38 seconds. In the 200m, he triumphed in 28.93, running into a 4.4 metres per second headwind. And in the 300m event, James struck gold in 45.93 seconds.

The champion district title went to Port of Spain. Wallace and company accumulated 507 points, forcing Caroni (381) and Tobago (324) to settle for second and third, respectively. North East were fourth with 289 points, finishing just ahead of Victoria (287) and St George East (280). St Patrick (264) occupied the cellar position.
