Farinha completes Junior sprint double

Trinidad Guardian :: 08.06.2015

Jonathan Farinha secured the qualification standard for the Junior Pan American Games in the Boys Under-20 200m event, when he won gold in that discipline yesterday at the NGC NAAA National Junior Championships, adding to the 100m gold he won on the opening day.

The event concluded with the open 4x400m and U-16 to U-20 4x100m relay finals, which ran off after press time last evening.

By then, Farinha, who lined up in the 4x100m relay finals, had already captured both the 100m and 200m gold medals in the U-20 bracket just as he did last year.

Farinha ran a blistering 20.87 seconds in the 200m final, well ahead of the 21.20 qualification standard for the Pan Am Games. Joash Huggins (Dovers) and Farinha’s club team-mate Corey Stewart finished with silver and bronze in 21.39 and 21.58 seconds, respectively.

Also dipping below the qualification standard for the Junior Pan Am games was Carifta gold medallist, Portious Warren who dominated the U-20 shot put event with a 15.19m toss, well ahead of the 14m standard.
