Bledman bags Diamond League silver Bronze for Baptiste, St Fort

Trinidad and Tobago track star, Keston Bledman bagged men’s 100 metres silver, at the adidas Grand Prix IAAF Diamond League meet, in New York, USA, yesterday.

Running under protest following his disqualification for flinching in the blocks, Bledman led for much of the race, but was edged on the line by American Tyson Gay, the winner in 10.12 seconds.

Bledman, who got home in 10.13, was reinstated by the referee and awarded the silver. Bronze went to Jamaican Nesta Carter in 10.15.

Kelly-Ann Baptiste picked up bronze in the women’s 100m, the T&T sprinter clocking 11.19 seconds. American English Gardner topped the field in 11 seconds flat, while Jamaica’s Samantha Henry-Robinson (11.08) finished second.

America-born T&T sprinter, Khalifa St Fort secured bronze in the girls 100m in 11.62 seconds. Gold and silver went to Americans Candace Hill (11.21) and Teahna Daniels (11.50).

T&T quartermilers, Renny Quow and Machel Cedenio finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the men’s 400m. Quow got home in a season’s best 45.57 seconds, while Cedenio clocked 45.89. Wayde van Niekirk won in a South African record time of 44.24 seconds, finishing ahead of veteran Bahamian Chris Brown (44.74) and American Tony McQuay (45.26).

T&T’s reigning world champion, Jehue Gordon produced a 49.34 seconds run for sixth spot in the men’s 400m hurdles.

The top three spots went to Puerto Rican Javier Culson (48.48), South Africa’s LJ van Zyl (48.78) and Bahamian Jeffery Gibson (48.97).
