Hackett, McKnight sparkle with silver

..bronze for James, 4x100 women in San Jose

Semoy Hackett and Sparkle McKnight each won silver medals while Jamaal James and T&T’s Women’s 4x100m team took bronze as the curtain came down on the NACAC Senior Championships in San Jose, Costa Rica, last night.

It carried T&T’s medal haul at the meet to eight following golds by Mikel Thomas (Men’s 110m hurdles) and Lalonde Gordon (Men’s 400m) and bronze from Michelle-Lee Ahye (Women’s 100m) and Quincy Wilson (Men’s discus).

Hackett came within a split second of the gold in the Women’s 200m final, finishing just behind American Kyla Jefferson (22.50) in a time of 22.51. Jefferson’s teammate Dezera Bryant was third in 22.58 while T&T’s Kamaria Durant placed seventh in 23.15.

McKnight ran a personal best of 55.41 in the Women’s 400m Hurdles final as American Tiffany Williams took the gold in 54.35. Cuban Zurian Hechavarria nabbed third in 55.97.

James finished the Men’s 800m final in 1:47.07 behind Americans Ryan Martin (1:45.79) and Clayton Murphy (1:46.38).

In the Women’s 100m final, Kamaria Durant, Reyare Thomas, Lisa Wickham and Peli Alzola sped to the line in 44.24 to nab third behind USA and Puerto Rico.

In other results, Emmanuel Mayers narrowly missed out on a medal in the Men’s 400m Hurdles, placing fourth in 49.95. The top three spots were taken up by Puerto Rican Javier Culson (48.70), Cuban Jose Gaspar (49.67) and American Trevor Brown (49.88).

Kyle Greaux timed 20.64 to finish fifth in the Men’s 200m final. The event was won by Jamaican Rasheed Dwyer in 20.12, followed by Dominican Republic’s Yancarlos Martinez (20.28) and St Kitts & Nevis’s Antoine Adams (20.47).

Shakiel Waithe was fifth in the Men’s Javelin with a 73.44m throw on his fifth attempt. American Riley Dolezal won the gold with 79.30m with Cuban Guillermo Martinez (78.15m) and Albert Reynolds (77.71m) taking silver and bronze, respectively.

T&T placed fifth in the Men’s 4x100m with Mikel Thomas, Kyle Greaux, Emmanuel Callender and Dan-Neil Telesford clocking 38.90. Jamaica took the top spot with a time of 38.07, with USA (38.45) and Barbados (38.55) in second and third, respectively.
