Jamaal’s journey

National champ talks two-lap running

Kwame Laurence :: Trinidad Express :: 29.10.2015

Jamaal James is the third fastest Trinidad and Tobago half-miler in history. Twenty-seven-year-old James has an 800 metres personal best of one minute, 46.57 seconds, a clocking he produced in Belgium in July 2013. Only national record holder Sherridan Kirk (1:45.43) and Mike Solomon (1:46.17) have gone faster.

With the Olympic Games taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil next August, James (JJ) is hopeful the 2016 season will be his best ever. The reigning national two-lap champ visited the Express recently, and spoke to sports journalist Kwame Laurence (KL) about his continuing journey to the elite level.
