Govt reviewing elite funding programme

Minister of Sport Darryl Smith has said the new terms of the Elite Athletes Assistance Programme, currently under review, will be rolled out early next year at a symposium the Ministry plans to hold with the national sporting organisations (NSOs).

Smith said on Saturday he is currently engaged in the process of consulting and getting feedback from NSOs on the EAAP.

“One of the things this government, this ministry and this board (SporTT) you are going to be seeing is a unique and different approach. (There will be) the non existence of the ivory tower syndrome where you are going to have a minister or chairman up in a tower dictating and telling everybody what to do,” Smith said.

The former Diego Martin Regional Corporation councillor said he had embarked on a mission that has never been done before.
