AT LAST

Kenyan Chepses finally wins

Donstan Bonn :: Trinidad Express :: 17.01.2016

Kenya’s Mark Kipkosgei Chepses finally snapped a series of runner-up placings to clinch his first Trinidad and Tobago International Marathon title in front of Whitehall, Queen’s Park Savannah, yesterday.

After three consecutive second-place finishes from 2012-’14, then third last year, Chepses ran what he later described as a patient race to cross the finish line in two hours, 28 minutes and 58 seconds with last year’s winner Juan Carlos Cardona Rios of Colombia, second in 2.29:06. Guyana’s Kelvin Johnson was third in 2.41:43 while Curtis Cox finished fourth in 2.47:20 to be the first local runner to cross the finish line.
