Kwame Laurence :: Trinidad Express :: 28.03.2016

Akanni Hislop earned gold medal number three for Trinidad and Tobago at the 45th Carifta Games here in St George's, Grenada, yesterday. The 17-year-old sprinter stopped the clock at a wind-aided 20.89 seconds to claim gold in the Boys Under-20 200 metres dash.

Coming off the turn, Hislop was well-positioned to challenge for the top spot. He proved to be even stronger on the straight. With a strong 4.5 metres per second wind at his back, Hislop motored to the line for a convincing victory. Keanu Pennerman was the best of the rest, the Bahamian snatching silver in 21.03 seconds. Antiguan Coull Graham (21.05) took bronze.

Tyrell Edwards snapped up silver for T&T in the Boys Under-18 200m in 21.56 seconds. Jamaican Michael Stephens (21.43) and Barbadian Matthew Clarke (21.75) earned gold and bronze, respectively.

Jeminise Parris produced a fine effort in the Girls Under-20 100m hurdles, getting home in a wind-assisted 13.73 seconds to secure bronze for T&T.
