Michelle-Lee Ahye was triumphant in her 2016 outdoor opener, in Texas, USA, yesterday. The Trinidad and Tobago track star clocked 11.25 seconds to win the Texas Relays invitational women's 100 metres dash, ahead of American Alexandria Anderson (11.32).

Another T&T sprinter, Khalifa St Fort finished third, the newly-crowned Carifta Games Girls Under-20 100m champion getting to the line in 11.39.

Kelly-Ann Baptiste clocked a wind-assisted 23.50 seconds to take bronze in the invitational women's 200m event. The T&T athlete trailed two Americans to the line--Natasha Hastings, the winner in 22.84, and Ashley Spencer, who was credited with the same time as Baptiste. Baptiste missed out on silver by just three-thousandths of a second. T&T's Reyare Thomas was seventh in the same race and 14th overall in 24.49 seconds.

Earlier, the T&T combination of Baptiste, Ahye, Thomas and St Fort, running in that order, won the invitational women's 4x100m relay in 43.06 seconds, forcing United States to settle for silver in 43.16.

T&T's Deborah John produced a 13.39 seconds run to finish fourth in the invitational women's 100m hurdles. And Wiley College sophomore Quinn-Lee Ralph was eighth in the university/college men's 100m final in a wind-aided 10.36 seconds.
