Walters snares silver in Mesa 400 hurdles

Trinidad and Tobago's Ruebin Walters seized silver in the men's 400 metres hurdles at the Mesa Classic in Arizona, USA, last Friday.

The Central Arizona College student got home in 51.77 seconds to finish between Americans Keyunta Hayes (51.53) and Terry Benson (51.85).

Another T&T/Central Arizona athlete, Portious Warren was third in the women's invitational shot put with a 15.23 metres effort.

Warren also competed in the women's discus, finishing fourth with a personal best 44.92m throw.

Mikel Thomas produced a 10.53 seconds run to claim fourth spot in the men's 100m dash. Ade Alleyne-Forte clocked 10.89 to finish fourth in the "B" race and 10th overall.

Jarrin Solomon finished fifth in the men's 200m event in 21.55 seconds. Alleyne-Forte's 21.86 run earned him fourth spot in the "B" race and ninth spot overall.

And Central Arizona's Hezekiel Romeo threw 17.39m to claim fifth spot in the men's invitational shot put.

At Saturday's Seniors Link Up #2 meet, in Jamaica, T&T's Sparkle McKnight bagged bronze in the women's 400m hurdles in a hand-timed 56.6 seconds.

Jamaicans Rhonda Whyte (56.1) and Shannon Kalawan (56.3) earned gold and silver, respectively.

Another Jamaican, Elaine Thompson produced the top performance at the meet.

The 2015 IAAF World Championship women's 200m silver medallist won the 100m dash in 11.07 seconds to join American Morolake Akinosun at the top of the 2016 world outdoor performance list.
