Sagicor Phoenix Walk/Run on this weekend

SAGICOR, once again, is proving to be the torch bearer in uniting people and communities with the launch of the Sagicor Phoenix Walk/Run, a one-lap event around the Queen's Park Savannah in Port of Spain.

Titled "My Life, Our Purpose", the event, which is schedule for a 6.30 p.m. start, opposite Victoria Avenue on Saturday, is part of a year-long series of events to commemorate the Sagicor Group's 175th anniversary, which was marked in November 2015.

In announcing the event, Sagicor's Corporate Communications Manager Marlene Chin commented that: "The Sagicor Phoenix Savannah Lap is being staged with a focus on providing an evening of fun and laughter for employees, friends and all members of the Sagicor family.

"This is the first time in recent history that there is a night run of this scale around the Queen's Park Savannah and more than $40,000 in prizes will be on offer".

Sagicor anticipates the walk/run will attract more than 2,500 participants with the top finishers seeking to break the ten minutes' mark.

"We expect a friendly rivalry among members of the running community to reclaim the record time for the savannah's "one-lap", Chin said.

She added that the other finishers will enjoy a cool, safe and fun-filled evening as staff and their family members, clients and suppliers, as well as members of the general public, will be entertained by three shows displaying an array of lights while live entertainment will be provided by the rhythmic sounds of Hands of Rhythm and the high energy of Outlaws International Tassa Drummers.

All participants will receive a branded T-shirt while the top 2,500 finishers will each receive a medal.

Sagicor is encouraging all runners and walkers, whether competitive or leisure, to come out and join them in an evening of fun, family and fellowship.

All persons interested in being part of this stellar event can register at caribislesports.com, print out their confirmation email and pay $60 at any Sagicor branch. Registration can also be done by walking in to any Sagicor branch, filling out the registration form and making the payment.

Registrants can return to the location indicated on their forms, on Thursday and Friday, to collect their T-shirt and bib.

Sagicor, in keeping with its continued support of charitable causes, will donate part proceeds from the Sagicor Phoenix Walk/Run to the LIFE Centre (Autism) in Petit Valley and the Friends of the Blood Bank Association.
