Hislop wins Schools sprint double

KANNI HISLOP , the 2016 CARIFTA Games Under-20 200-metre gold medallist, cruised to victory in the Boys 18-and-Over 200m yesterday, as the two-day National Secondary Schools Athletic Championships ended at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.

Hislop, a student of Bishop's High School in Tobago, crossed the finish line in 21.43 seconds, ahead of Onil Mitchell of Cedros Secondary, who ran 22.31 seconds, and Aaron Brewster of St Benedict's, who was timed in 22.34.

On Wednesday, Hislop clinched the 100m event in a time of 10.65.

In the Girls 18-and- Over 200m yesterday, Maurina Prieto of Point Fortin West took the gold medal in a time of 26.43, ahead of Jamilla Potts of Bishop's High (27.87) and Reguell Richards of Fyzabad Secondary (27.88).

Jamaul Andrews of Siparia West was the winner of the Boys Under-18 200m, as he stopped the clock in 22.57 seconds, followed by Tyshawn Gray of Speyside Secondary (22.84) and Zion Martin of Cunupia Secondary (23.11).

The Girls Under-18 200m was won by Ayla Stanisclaus from Scarborough Secondary.

Stanisclaus covered the distance in a time of 25.19, with Cheziah Phillip of Toco Secondary second in 25.57 and Cardeisha Daniell of Arima Central third in 25.89.

One of TT 's top young runners, Caliyah Wallace of St Francois Girls, triumphed in the Girls Under-16 half-lap. She ran 25.29 seconds, followed by Patrice Richards of Holy Faith Couva (25.41) and Mackenzy Baptiste of North Eastern College (26.06).

And, in the Boys Under- 16 200m, Ethan Forde of Fatima won in 23.15 seconds, with Emmanuel Correa of Chaguanas North (23.22) and Omari Lewis of Matura Secondary (23.62) trailing.

Other Results - Boys Under-14 200m: 1.Shakeem McKay (QRC) 24.26; 2.Jorden Pope (Woodbrook Secondary) 24.68; 3.Jabari Taylor (Scarborough Secondary) 25.63.

Girls Under-14 200m: 1.Arianne Lucio (Belmont Secondary) 27.01; 2.Kerneil Waldron (St Charles High) 27.25; 3.Cassandra Joseph (Toco Secondary) 27.65.

Boys Under-16 800m: 1.Israel Scott (Tranquillity Secondary) 2:11.65; 2.Andewele Welch (Fatima) 2:11.76; 3.Aarin Simon (Bon Air Secondary) 2:11.87.

Boys 18-and-Over triple jump: 1.Terrel Paul (Toco Secondary) 13.36m; 2.Tariqu Dann (Toco) 12.91m; 3.Isaiah Francis (East Mucurapo) 12.60m.

Girls 18-and-Over 3000m: 1.Donicia Antoine (Toco) 12:02.88; 2.Silinni Acosta (Bishop's High) 13:07.56; 3.Janeil Bailey (East Mucurapo) 13:17.50
