Walters, Roberts, Morain, Mark golden at US meets

Ruebin Walters grabbed gold in the men's 110 metres hurdles at the Triton Invitational, in California, on the weekend. The Central Arizona College sophomore clocked 13.68 seconds.

Another Trinidad and Tobago/Central Arizona athlete, Hezekiel Romeo threw 17.40 metres for seventh spot in the men's shot put. His teammate, Portious Warren finished ninth in the women's invitational shot put with a 16.00m effort. And in the women's invitational javelin, Warren (34.59m) was 25th.

At the Morgan State Legacy Meet, in Maryland, Coppin State University's Khemani Roberts accumulated 4,681 points to win the women's heptathlon. Her teammates, Haysean Cowie-Clarke and Mark London earned silver, Cowie-Clarke in the men's 100m dash in 10.52 seconds and London in the men's 800m in one minute, 50.65 seconds.

Steve Waithe produced a 16.02m effort to seize silver in the men's triple jump. Coppin State's Deandra Daniel went over the bar at 1.73m for bronze in the women's high jump. And Roberts threw 28.66m to finish ninth in the women's javelin.

Moriba Morain was in a winning mood at the Red River Athletics Conference Championships, in Texas. The Wiley College student won the men's 100m in 10.59 seconds, the 200m in 20.99 and the 400m in 48.12. His teammates, Quinn-Lee Ralph (10.62) and Machael Mark (10.76) were second and fourth, respectively, in the 100m. In the 200m, Ralph (21.46) finished third, while Mark (21.86) was fifth. Another T&T/Wiley College athlete, Justin Maloney clocked 48.39 for second spot in the 400m. Mark won the men's long jump with a 7.09m leap. Wiley's Kendall Perouza finished third in the men's 400m hurdles in 56.09 seconds. And Maloney threw 34.25m for fifth spot in the men's javelin.

At the Larry Ellis Invitational, in New Jersey, Monroe College's Zakiya Denoon finished first in her section and second overall in the women's 100m in 11.72 seconds.

In Louisiana, Shermund Allsop finished fifth overall in the Alumni Gold men's 100m event in a wind-assisted 10.23.

In Oklahoma, Abilene Christian University senior Sterlen Paul was fifth fastest in the men's 800m in 1:54.80.

And at the War Eagle Invitational, in Alabama, Kai Selvon finished seventh in the women's 100m final in 12.20 seconds, after clocking 11.42 in the qualifying round.
