Newsday :: 26.04.2016

Kai Selvon won her first race of the 2016 campaign with a 11.42 seconds clocking in the Women` s 100 metres at the War Eagle Invitational, Alabama, USA over the weekend.

Running into a 0.3 headwind, Kai was made to work harder to compensate for her slow start to eventually defeat second placed Janet Pate of Alabama University who clocked 11.85 seconds and Victoria Parker from Syracuse University who trailed in 12.15 seconds.

The Puma-sponsored athlete, who was relieved to have participated in a 100 metres event after an injury plagued year, spoke to Newsday about her race.

"I started slowly off the blocks but I continued regardless so I made up ground around the 40 metre mark and was able to win easily in the end," she noted.

She went on to say, "It feels good to be back in form, it is not an overly fast time but the season is young so once I work on some mistakes I will be where I need to be." Also on the weekend, Trinidad and Tobago's Michelle-Lee Ahye, captured the 100m event at the Michael Johnson Invitational at Clyde Hart Track and Field stadium in Texas.
