Newsday :: 27.05.2016

THE SPORTS Company of Trinidad and Tobago (SporTT ) will continue its support of the long-standing Hampton International Games which takes place from today until Sunday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.

Now in its 39th year, the Hampton Games is part of Trinidad and Tobago's athletics history, with a record of outstanding performances from local and foreign athletes alike.

The Games had been on the decline in recent years but is on the rebound through support from the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs and SporTT .

As 2016 is an Olympic year, patrons of the Games can expect a competitive event, with many athletes still attempting to make the Olympic qualifying standard for their country.

The Caribbean will form the bulk of visiting athletes, with representation from French Guiana, Barbados, St Vincent, Martinique and Suriname.

Kenyan athletes bad in the United States are also expected to bring their usual high standards to the distance events.

International athletes will participate in their heats today with the finals being contested tomorrow (from 1.30 pm) and Sunday (from 2.30 pm).

SporTT has contributed $52,000 to the Games to cover the cost of medals, trophies and stipends for more than 90 officials.

Additionally, the meet timing and results management is also being handled by an eight-person team from SporTT , which provides this service to all meet organisers in Trinidad and Tobago.

The service comprises Electronic Photo Finish and Digital Field Events Results.
