Machel Cedenio finished fourth in the men's 400 metres, at the Prefontaine Classic IAAF Diamond League meet, in Oregon, USA, yesterday. The Trinidad and Tobago quarter-miler crossed the line in 45.45 seconds.

Grenadian Kirani James preserved his 2016 unbeaten record, the reigning Olympic champion getting home in 44.22, ahead of American LaShawn Merritt (44.39) and Botswana's Isaac Makwala (45.37).

Coming off the final bend, Cedenio was well behind the top three. He made up ground on Makwala on the home straight, but James and Merritt finished strong for a huge gap on the rest of the field.

Meanwhile, T&T's Keshorn Walcott opened his 2016 campaign with a seventh-place finish in the Prefontaine Classic men's javelin event. The reigning Olympic champion landed the spear 74.99 metres. Egypt's Ihab Abdelrahman topped the field with an 87.37m effort, finishing ahead of Kenyan Julius Yego (84.68m) and Germany's Thomas Rohler (82.53m).
