Stewart tops Hampton shot put

Akeem Stewart threw 18.29 metres to secure the Hampton International Games men's shot put title at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, yesterday. The Tobago Falcons athlete threw the iron ball 18.29 metres.

Hezekiel Romeo produced a personal best 17.85m effort to claim silver, while bronze went to 17-year-old Isaiah Taylor (16.15m). Kimorie Shearman got the better of Tacuma Sterling in an exciting men's 400m event.

Shearman battled hard to get the gold, the St Vincent and the Grenadines athlete clocking 47.43 seconds. Sterling snapped up silver in 47.65, finishing just ahead of Barbadian Anthonio Mascoll (47.68). Romona Modeste stopped the clock at 55.19 seconds to grab gold in the women's 400m. The Abilene quartermiler came off the final bend in full control. Mauricia Prieto produced a strong run coming home, but could not get close to Modeste and had to settle for silver in 55.76. Kafi Ottley clocked 58.55 to pick up bronze.
