MORE GOLD? Possible Beijing sprint relay upgrade for T&T

Donstan Bonn :: Trinidad Express :: 03.06.2016

The Trinidad and Tobago's men's 4x100 metres relay team that captured silver at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, could have their medal upgraded to gold following a report that a retested 'A' sample of a member of Jamaica's gold medal squad has come back positive.

Although the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has not released the identities of the 31 athletes whose samples were retested, Andre Lowe, Special Projects Editor-Sports with the Jamaica Gleaner, as well as BBC, CANA and international wire service Reuters reported that the 'A' sample of Nesta Carter, who ran the leadoff leg for Jamaica, was found to contain traces of a banned stimulant Methylexaneamine.

If, as the Gleaner is reporting, Carter is indeed the athlete, and if his 'B' sample confirms the finding of his 'A' sample, then there's the strong possibility that the Jamaican contingent of Carter, Michael Frater, Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell could be stripped of the gold medal, with it possibly being awarded to T&T's Keston Bledman, Marc Burns, Emmanuel Callender and Richard "Torpedo" Thompson.
