KINGSTON

National para-athlete Akeem Stewart is now the proud holder of three world (Para) records. The powerfully-built Tobagonian added his latest while competing at the Jamaica All Comers meet on Saturday evening in the shot put event. Stewart secured first place when he broke the f43 world record for the discipline with a throw of 20.10m. He also picked up his second win at the meet when he landed the discus in a world leading mark of 58.78m.

The shot put mark of 20.10m takes Akeem's tally of world para-athletic records to three in approximately the past 12 months. He holds the world records in the javelin (54.77) and in the discus (63.03m). The 23-year-old was expected to return home last night. Stewart will be competing in the National Open Championships later this month (June 24th–25th) at the Hasely Crawford Stadium as part of his preparation for the 2016 Paralympics (September 7-18) in Rio.
