McKay claims six gold at Juvenile Champs

AKEEM McKay, of Memphis Pioneers, claimed a total of six gold medals at the National Gas Company (NGC)-sponsored NAAA (National Association of Athletics Administrations) Juvenile Championships at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.

On Saturday, McKay prevailed in the Boys Under-14 high jump with a leap of 1.55 metres, ahead of Aaron Antoine of Neon Wolves (1.52m) and Ezekiel Salvary of Toco Tafac (1.35m).

He later won the Boys Under- 14 100m in a meet-record time of 11.43 seconds, followed by clubmate Daniel Qui (11.74) and Kern Cedeno of FAS (11.91); and then was part of the Memphis Pioneers' victorious mixed Under-14 4x100m relay team (along with Atiya Croal, Arianne Lucio and Qui). Memphis Pioneers won the race in 48 seconds flat, ahead of Cougars (48.86) and Abilene Wildcats (52.31).

McKay was not done as, on Sunday, he returned to the Stadium's track to bag three more gold medals.

In the Boys Under-14 high jump, McKay triumphed with a best effort of 1.55m, followed by Antoine (1.52m) and Salvary (1.35m).

He then cruised to victory in the Boys Under-14 200m in 23.40, followed by Jordan Pope of Cougars (23.93) and Cedeno (24.50).

And, in the final event of the weekend's Championships, McKay anchored the Memphis Pioneers' Boys Under-14 800m sprint medley relay team (including Wayne Edwards, Qui and Kyle Beckles) to gold in two minutes 12.21 seconds. Cougars placed second in 2:15.44 and Fyzabad Athletic Stars third in 2:21.99.
