Akili, Serville shine at Junior Champs

ANYA AKILI and Rae-Anne Serville were among the standout athletes at the THA/NGC/NAAA Junior Track and Field Championships, which was held at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Tobago, on Saturday and Sunday.

Both athletes won four gold medals apiece with Serville dominating the Under-16 girls category and Akili shining in the Under-18 girls category.

On Saturday, Serville collected her first gold medal when she won the 100-metre hurdles in a time of 15.49 seconds. She then went on later that afternoon and stopped the clock in a blistering 55.15 while winning the 400m dash.

Serville continued her winning ways on Sunday when she first crossed the finish line in the 200m dash in 24.64 and then went on to pick up her fourth gold medal while being part of her club's (Memphis Pioneers) 4x100m relay team.

Akili of Kaizen Panthers was not to be outdone, standing on top of the podium four times during the Championships. On Saturday, Akili collected her first gold medal when she leaped into first place in the long jump with a distance of 5.32metres. She then secured her second gold, when she stopped the clock at 14.62 in the 100m hurdles.

Akili continued her winning ways on Sunday afternoon when she first crossed the finish line in the 400m hurdles in 1:05.44 and then went on to pick up her fourth gold medal in the high jump, with a height of 1.50m.

The National Association of Athletics Administrations of Trinidad and Tobago (NAAA) congratulated both athletes for their achievements.
