Keshorn Walcott finished fifth in the men's javelin at the Bauhaus-Galan IAAF Diamond League meet in Stockholm, Sweden, yesterday. The 2012 Olympic champion produced a 79.71 metres effort, more than six metres short of the 86.35m throw that earned him bronze at the Bislett Games, last week Thursday.

Walcott's 79.71m throw came in round one. He fouled his second attempt, and then produced a 75.98m effort in the third round. With only the top four getting three additional throws, the Trinidad and Tobago athlete made his exit from the competition after round three.

There was a close contest for gold between Egypt's Ihab Abdelrahman and Germany's Thomas Rohler. Abdelrahman threw 86 metres flat to edge out his rival, Rohler settling for silver with an 85.89m effort. Reigning world champion Julius Yego picked up bronze, the Kenyan landing the spear 83.09m. Fourth spot, meanwhile, went to Japan's Ryohei Arai (82.24m).
