Akeem Stewart broke his own national men's shot put record at the Zenith Relays, in Tobago, on Sunday. The Falcons athlete threw the iron ball 19.96 metres to better the 19.34m Trinidad and Tobago standard he had established in 2013.

Stewart's 19.96m effort earned him gold, ahead of Shervorne Worrell (18.36m) and Kesean Phillips (14.24m). In the discus, Stewart threw 50.03m for third spot, behind Rebirth's Quincy Wilson, the winner with a 57.07m effort, and Zenith's Emmanuel Stewart (51.42m). And in the javelin, Emmanuel Stewart was golden at 58.93m, forcing Jeffrey Williams (58.61m) and Precious George (53.12m) to settle for silver and bronze, respectively.

Akeem Stewart, who will challenge for precious metal at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, finished fifth in the javelin with a 52.48m throw. Stewart's Falcons teammate, Chelsea James struck double gold, winning the women's discus with a 38.60m effort and the shot put at 13.40m.

Zenith's Haysean Cowie-Clarke grabbed men's 100 metres gold in 10.67 seconds. Lisa Wickham was the class of the field in the women's 100m dash, the Concorde sprinter getting to the line in 11.62. Mason Hall's Darren Alfred emerged victorious in the men's 400m in 47.91 seconds. Second spot went to Mark London in 49.47.

Aiesha Colthrust won the women's 100m hurdles in 16.82 seconds. She also earned gold in the long jump, the Neon Wolves athlete disturbing the sand at 5.18m. There was a double triumph too for Mauricezo Lindsay. The Zenith athlete won the men's 110m hurdles in 16.66 seconds and the 400m hurdles in one minute, 01.26 seconds.

At the Grande Premio meet, in Brazil, T&T's Jarrin Solomon clocked 45.97 seconds to seize silver in the men's 400m, behind Colombian Diego Palomeque (45.86) and ahead of Venezuela's Albert Bravo (46.03). And on Saturday, at the England U20/U23 Championships, T&T's Nicholas Landeau won a men's under-23 800m race in 1:54.31.
