Hislop starts 100m quest at IAAF U-20 Champs

AKANNI Hislop will the first national athlete to face the starter when the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) World Under-20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, begins today.

The Trinidad and Tobago team comprises 12 athletes and five officials. Hislop will be in the first heat of the boys 100-metre dash running out of lane two.

There will be six heats overall with 43 athletes taking part. The top three from each heat plus the next six fastest times will advance to the semifinals which will be contested tomorrow along with the finals.

Also representing TT tomorrow is Chelsea James in the girls shot put, followed by both Kashief King and Jacob St Clair in the boys 400m. Also competing on day two will be sprinters Khalifa St Fort and Jenea Spinks in the girls 100m dash.

Day three will see the start of the boys 200m heats, the girls 100m semifinals and finals and the boys 400m semi-finals. Jeminise Parris will be first in action on day four when she competes in the girls 100m hurdles followed by St Fort in the girls 200m heats.

The girls 4x100m relay team of St Fort, Spinks, Sarah Wollaston, Akeera Esdelle and Parris will also compete on day four.

Four out of the five quarter- milers comprising of King, St Clair, Judah Taylor, Dwight St Hillaire and Daniel Gibbs will make up the boys 4x400m relay team which will be in action on the fifth day. The Championship ends on Sunday.

Boys - Akanni Hislop (100m, 200m); Jacob St Clair, Kashief King (400m, 4x400m relay); Judah Taylor, Dwight St Hillaire, Daniel Gibbs (4x400m relay).
