MACHEL CEDENIO, Trinidad and Tobago's newly-crowned 400-metre champion, is showing very good form and determination which will strengthen his chances of being a strong contender for a place in the Rio Olympics men's 400m final and a chance to share in the glory of being on the podium at the greatest quadrennial sporting spectacle.

The 20-year-old has lived up to expectations and produced very encouraging results throughout the 2016 season and raises national hope of an outstanding outing among the world's greatest quarter-milers.

After being crowned World Junior 400m champion in 2014; Cedenio opened his senior campaign in 2015 with victory in the International 400m race at the Cayman Islands National Stadium track on May 16.

He clocked an impressive 44.36 seconds for the race and it remained his best time for 2015; in which he collected the Pan American Games silver medal in Toronto, Canada.

On Friday last at the IAAF Herculis Monaco Diamond League 400m race, Cedenio produced a powerful sustained burst of speed down the final straightway and overhauled four major rivals to collect the silver medal behind South Africa's Wayde Van Niekerk (44.12 seconds).

Despite not being among the five front-runners as they turned for the homestretch drive in the onelap sprint event, Cedenio displayed improved form and charged through from behind in lane two and dipped just ahead of Grenada's rising star Branlon Tappin who finished in third spot and career-best of 44.38.

TT 's world junior champion has maintained good consistency throughout the season and clocked his career best of 44.36 seconds.
