Kolodko stripped of London shot put silver

Evgeniia Kolodko has become the latest Russian athlete to be stripped of an Olympic Games medal for a doping offence. The 36-year-old won a silver medal in the women's shot put competition at London 2012 but a re-test of her sample from four years ago has returned a positive test for a banned substance.

Kolodko had been moved up to silver medal position after Nadezhda Ostapchuk of Belarus was disqualified and stripped of her gold medal following a positive doping test. New Zealand's Valerie Adams was later awarded the gold with China's Gong Lijiao getting the bronze.

"Kolodko has been disqualified from the Olympic Games London 2012 in which she ranked second and for which she was awarded the silver medal," a statement from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) read. "Reanalysis of Kolodko's samples from London 2012 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substances dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol) and ipamorelin."

A total of 98 samples have returned as positive in re-analysis from the Beijing Games in 2008 and London 2012 as the IOC attempted to root out cheats and stop them from going to Rio, where the entire Russian track and field team was banned.
