Mastrapa: Bronze medal due reward

Keshorn Walcott's bronze-medal throw at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is a good return for four years' work, was the word from his Cuban coach Ismael Lopez Mastrapa at the VIP room at Piarco International Airport, where a portion of the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic team returned from the Games yesterday.

The coach spoke to the media after the welcome reception, which was arranged by the Sport Company of Trinidad and Tobago (SPORTT), and said he was satisfied with both Walcott and veteran shot-putter Cleopatra Borel, both of whom he coached at the Games this year.

"Any medal at the Olympic Games is good," he told the media. "Gold is the best, but a bronze medal is a good position. Keshorn this year, did not have the best season. He went to the Olympics and no-one expected him to get a medal. In the training camp in São Paulo, I was asked to fix many things in the problem and the technique, and at the end of the day, he threw the best distance in the qualification and in the final he got the bronze medal, so for me that was very good."
