Michelle-Lee Ahye finished seventh in the women's 200 metres event at yesterday's Weltklasse meet in Zurich, Switzerland—the first of two IAAF Diamond League finals. She got to the line in 22.78 seconds.

Drawn out in lane eight, it was always an uphill battle for Ahye. Coming off the turn, the Trinidad and Tobago track star was close to the back of the field, and unable to challenge for a top-three finish.

At the other end of the race, fast-finishing Jamaican Elaine Thompson overhauled arch-rival Dafne Schippers at the finish line to grab gold in a Diamond League record time of 21.85 seconds. Schippers finished second, the Dutchwoman getting home in 21.86. Third spot went to American Allyson Felix in 22.02. But while Schippers had to settle for the runner-up spot in Zurich, she emerged victorious in the Diamond Race, accumulating 48 points for a huge cushion on Thompson, the runner-up with 30.

Meanwhile, there were three foul throws for T&T's Keshorn Walcott in the men's javelin. With no throws to measure, the 2016 Olympic Games bronze medallist was unplaced.

Jakub Vadlejch topped the nine-man field with an 87.28 metres throw. The victory also earned him Diamond Race honours. The Czech Republic field athlete ended the season with 50 points, moving past pre-meet leader Thomas Rohler, the runner-up yesterday with an 86.56m effort.

Rohler, who was crowned Olympic champion in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, last month, finished second in the Diamond Race with 46 points. His fellow-German, Julian Weber was third in Zurich at 84.29m and third in the Diamond Race with 15 points, one more than fourth-placed.
