TRINIDAD AND Tobago's sprint champion Michelle-Lee Ahye placed seventh in the women's 200-metre race while Rio Olympics bronze medallist Keshorn Walcott failed to get any distance in his three attempts (foul throws) at the Zurich Diamond League Meet in Switzerland yesterday.

However, the spotlight fell on Jamaica's double Olympics sprint champion Elaine Thompson who prevailed over World champion and Olympic silver medallist Dafne Schippers in the women's 200m.

Thompson produced a burst of speed to pip Schippers on the line with a new Diamond League record time of 21.85 seconds.

American ace Allyson Felix placed third in 22.02 while Great Britain's Dina Asher-Smith finished in fourth position with 22.38. Jamaicans Simone Facey and Veronica Campbell-Brown were fifth and sixth respectively in 22.50 and 22.51, followed by Ahye 22.78 and Switzerland's Mujinga Kambundji 23.00.

Walcott, the Rio Olympics bronze medallist, had a rough day as all three of his attempts were declared as foul throws.

The event was won by Czech Republic's Jakub Vadlejch whose fourth attempt sailed to 87.28m while Olympics champion, Germany's Thomas Rohler who registered 86.56m with his first attempt, was second and countryman Julian Weber was third with 84.27m.
