Keston Charkles Nylo :: Newsday :: 02.09.2016

NATIONAL JAVELIN ace Keshorn Walcott will be returning home tomorrow, a fortnight after he earned a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Darryl Smith will be on hand to welcome Walcott, who also earned gold in the 2012 London Olympics, when he touches down at the Piarco International Airport at 6 am.

At the Rio Games, Walcott was third with a best effort of 85.38 metres, trailing Germany's Thomas Rohler, who threw 90.30 metres, and Julius Yego of Kenya, who registered 88.24 metres.

Four years earlier, he became Trinidad and Tobago's second-ever Olympic gold medallist, when he triumphed in a then-national record throw of 84.58m, ahead of Finland's Antti Ruuskanen (84.12m) and Vitezslav Vesely of the Czech Republic (83.34m).

The 23-year-old Walcott recently competed in two Diamond League meets - in Paris, France last Saturday where he placed fifth with a throw of 82.40 metres, and in Zurich, Switzerland yesterday.

Walcott will also be greeted by president of the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTO C) Brian Lewis, who is expected to be among the small welcome party at the Airport's VIP Lounge.
