Cain ready to roll in Rio

Donstan Bonn :: Trinidad Express :: 13.09.2016

TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO'S female sprinter Nyoshia Cain is set to see action at the Paralympic Games in Rio when she faces the starter at 6.38 p.m. today in the women's T44 classification 200 metres event.

Cain, who will be running out of lane seven in heat one of preliminary round competition, will be hoping to secure a berth in the final. Though not her best event, she clinched a fifth-place finish at last year's International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics World Championships in Doha, Qatar before claiming gold in a time of 27.69 seconds at the Desert Challenge Grand Prix in Arizona, USA in May.

And while coach Micky Reuben has not written off her chances in the 200m, he believes his 21-year-old- charge will be a serious medal contender in the 100 metres.

"She has improved drasatically in such a short space of time and has so much potential that before long I expect her to be the best ever in her classification. I expect nothing less."
