Cain makes Paralympic Games debut today

NYOSHIA Cain will begin her quest for a medal when she competes in the women's T44 200-metre event at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil today.

Cain will line up in lane seven of heat one in the first round of the T44 200m event for a place in the final tomorrow.

She will then compete in the T44 100m event on Saturday.

Yesterday, Shanntol Ince continued to have a tough time in Rio as the national swimmer finished seventh in her heat in the women's 50m freestyle S9 event which was not good enough to advance to the final.

Ince was seventh among the seven competitors in a time of 33.38 seconds. The TT swimmer finished behind Chinese Jiexin Wang (29.55), Spain's Sarai Gascon (29.61), American Elizabeth Smith (30.18), Argentine Daniela Gimenez (30.24), Tupou Neiufi of New Zealand (31.37) and Italian Francesca Secci (31.94).

Earlier in the Games, Ince did not advance past the heats in the women's 400m freestyle S9 and women's 100m freestyle S9 events respectively.

Ince will compete in her last event of the Games tomorrow when she lines up in the women's 100m butterfly S9 event.

Akeem Stewart, who won gold and broke his own world record in the men's javelin F44 last Friday, will aim for another medal when he lines up in the men's discus F44 event on Friday.

Stewart won gold with a top throw of 57.32m finishing ahead of Canadian Alister Mc- Queen (55.56) and Rory McSweeney of New Zealand (54.99).
