Stewart goes after second gold in discus today

After a record breaking performance in the javelin last week, T&T's Akeem Stewart will go after another gold medal and world record today in the F43/44 Men's discuss throw at the Olympic Stadium, at the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Lowlands Tobago athlete who broke two world records on his way to victory last week in the men's javelin event with a distance of 57.32 metres, will face a competitive field from 3.50 pm T&T time that will comprise Chris Bardy Bouesso of Congo, David Blair and Jeremy Campbell of the United States; Croatia's Josip Slivar and Ivan Katanusic; Dan Greaves of Great Britain; Gerdabn Fonseca of Cuba; Adrian Matusik of Slovakia and Estonia's Egert Joesaar.

Stewart who will be will be the lone F43 participant in the men's final today, has been the only T&T athlete to mount the podium for T&T to date, after Nyoshia Cain was disqualified in the Women's 200 metres T44 for a lane violation, despite finishing third in the race.

Swimmer Shantol Ince has also failed to replicate her performances the 400 metres freestyle S9, 50 metres freestyle and 100 metres freestyle.

Stewart's father Wayne Stewart said recently that his son is yet to produce his best, saying he awaits today's performance to see will happen.
