Best team ever
...successful Paralympians return home Tuesday
Trinidad Express :: 19.09.2016When Akeem Stewart, Nyoshia Cain and Shanntol Ince return home today from their campaign at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio, they will represent Trinidad and Tobago's most successful contingent at either an Olympic or Paralympic Games. Their success, however, would be based not on the number of medals won, but on medals won in relation to the size of the team.
Stewart, classified as an F43 athlete, won gold in the men's javelin final for F42/43/44 competitors, with a record-breaking throw of 57.32 metres. He then picked up silver in the men's F43/44 discus final with a 61.72m effort. Cain added a third medal for T&T, when she captured bronze in the T44 women's 100m final in a new personal best of 13.10 seconds.
Three athletes, three medals. The gold, silver and bronze haul being bettered only by the two gold and bronze, all won by Rachel Marshall, at the 1984 Paralympic Games in New York, USA however, that team consisted of eight athletes.
