Usain Bolt is the Caribbean Sports Journalists Association (CASJA) Sportsman of the Year. The Jamaican sprint legend's three gold medals at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, earned him a clear victory.

Among the other contenders for the Sportsman of the Year award were Jamaica's Olympic and world indoor sprint hurdles champion Omar McLeod, Trinidad and Tobago quartermiler Machel Cedenio, Cuban Olympic wrestling champion Mijain Lopez, and Jamaican footballer Wes Morgan, who captained Leicester City to an unlikely victory in the English Premier League.

Elaine Thompson captured the CASJA Sportswoman of the Year award, a reward for completing the women's sprint double at the Rio Olympics. The Jamaican sprint star was also a bronze medallist in the 60 metres dash at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Portland, Oregon, USA. Bahamian Shaunae Miller, the Olympic 400m champion, was a nominee for Sportswoman of the Year.

Antiguan pacer Alzarri Joseph was named Junior Sportsman of the Year for his role in the West Indies triumph at the Under-19 Cricket World Cup. The Under-19s were named Male Team of the Year.

Barbadian allrounder Hayley Matthews is the Junior Sportswoman of the Year. A superb knock of 66 from Matthews in the final of the 2016 ICC Women's World T20 earned West Indies an eight-wicket victory over Australia. The global title secured Female Team of the Year honours for the West Indies Women.

World junior 400m hurdles champion Jaheel Hyde, 19, captured the CASJA Male Rising Star Award, with the female equivalent accolade going to his fellow Jamaican, 22-year-old Shericka Jackson, the Olympic 400m bronze medallist.
