VELAZCO, KIGEN RULEAkor distraction mars T&T MarathonKwame Laurence :: Trinidad Express :: 29.01.2017Jose Alejandro Velazco was crowned 2017 Trinidad and Tobago International Marathon (TTIM) men's champion, yesterday, the Venezuelan securing the title with a dominant performance in the second half of the 26.2-mile race. But while there was a clear winner on the men's side, confusion was the order of the day in the women's race. Leah Kigen is the official champion, the 37-year-old Kenyan completing the course in two hours, 54 minutes, 46 seconds to make a successful defence of her title. However, the first woman to cross the finish line at the Queen's Park Savannah in Port of Spain, near Whitehall, was actually Nigerian-born American Mark Akor.
