Lalonde breaks CAC 300 record

Scottish Champs double for Richards

Lalonde Gordon broke his own Trinidad and Tobago and Central American and Caribbean (CAC) indoor 300 metres records at the Armory Track Invitational, in New York, USA, on Saturday. The T&T track star topped the men's invitational 300m event with a fast 32.37 seconds run, chopping one-tenth of a second off the 32.47 T&T/CAC standard he had established in 2014.

With the 32.37 scorcher, Gordon moved from ninth to eighth on the world all-time performance list. The 2012 Olympic Games double bronze medallist has also taken over the 2017 global lead from Czech Republic's Pavel Maslak (32.61). American Wallace Spearmon is the world record holder at 31.88.

Gordon was a comfortable winner of Saturday's race, finishing well ahead of American teen sensation Tyrese Cooper, the runner-up in 32.87.

Gordon and another T&T athlete, Adrian Crichlow were part of the New York City All Stars team that finished second in the invitational men's 4x200m relay. Gordon performed second leg duties and Crichlow anchored in the team's one minute, 26.45 seconds silver run. United States won in 1:25.56.

Zakiya Denoon struck gold for her school, Monroe College in the Armory Track Invitational college women's 60m dash. The T&T sprinter stopped the clock at a personal best 7.33 seconds. Denoon clocked 24.11 for fifth spot overall in the college women's 200m.

T&T's Andre Marcano finished eighth in the developmental men's 60m final in 6.85 seconds. Crichlow got to the line in 22.73 for ninth spot overall in the developmental men's 200m. And Monroe College's Dawnel Collymore was 13th in the college women's 500m event in 1:18.81.

At the Scottish University & College Indoor Championships, in Glasgow, Scotland, T&T's Che Richards landed an impressive double. The University of Edinburgh student won his pet event, the men's long jump with a meet record leap of 7.37 metres. And in the 60m dash, he struck gold in 6.96 seconds.

"The long jump distance wasn't what I wanted," Richards told the Express, "but I'm still happy. My times for the 60 went from 7.02 in the prelims to 7-flat in the semis to 6.96 in the final. All in all, I was happy with today's results and that I was able to leave without any injuries."
