Cougars seek glory in Barbados

The Cougars Track and Field Club will be venturing to Barbados for the International Meet called the Barbados Relay Fair today.

The six-time champion Juvenile Club which made history as the first Athletic Club from T&T ever to travel to participate in the meet will be the defending champion.

Cougars is seen as one of the athletic club for the development at the Junior level and has already shown the benefit of their skill and instruction by winning the NAAA Juvenile Championships for the past five years.

Since being judged the champion Juvenile club in T&T in 2011 the club has not looked back.

The club has been in existence for nine years with several of the young athletes already securing spots on Junior Carifta and National Teams.

In preparation for the event Cougars held an intensive training camp at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella, foregoing the festivities, for a chance to put up a solid defence against their Barbadian counterparts.

Head Coach of the Club, Kelvin Nancoo said: "This is a good venture for the Club and athletes. The exposure is needed and we are certain to stand up proudly on Saturday.

"I expect after the camp that we will do very well in Barbados, if not win the championship again. Our athletes have done well and Ms Abeyola Akowe is very happy with their preparation.

"All systems are on go and with a good flight, and some luck we will do Trinidad and Tobago Proud. I wish to thank the Sportt Company of Trinidad and Tobago, the Ministry of Sport for ensuring that our camp and our tour will be a very productive experience."
