Trinidad Express :: 18.02.2017

The National Association of Athletics Administrators (NAAA) will partner with the Elite Development and Performance Unit (EDPU) of the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago to launch the junior elite pilot project today from 9 a.m. at the VIP Lounge, Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port of Spain.

The NAAA's goal is to develop "a cadre of well-rounded, high performing junior track and field athletes" over a six-month period. Forty-one athletes will be engaged in the pilot project with a philosophy that takes an approach to developing prospective junior and youth podium athletes to elite status.

The project modules will comprise monitoring and evaluation as well as scientific, therapeutic and educational support to improve overall athletic development. The EDPU is expected to provide strength and conditioning, sport psychology, sport nutrition, sport and exercise science, physical therapy and massage therapy.

At the launch, NAAA president Ephraim Serrette, EDPU executive manager Tobias Ottley and sport services manager Candice Thomas will present the modules of the programme in the presence of the athletes and coaches earmarked for it.
